1. The Town of North Beach Marker
Inscription. The Town of North Beach was incorporated in 1910. It was developed and marketed as a waterfront resort by the North Beach Land and Improvement Company. In 1906, the company opened a road between Chesapeake Beach and what was then called North Chesapeake Beach. In 1916, an electric trolley began carrying vacationers who had traveled by train and steamboats to Chesapeake Beach over to North Beach. Nightclubs, dancing, salt-water bathing and swimming drew people from the cities for weekends and summers. After World War II, cottages were remodeled for year round use. Slot machines and other recreation continued to attract weekenders until the late 1960's.
