At the top of the monument is the trefoil symbol of Second Corps. A bronze disk with the state seal is mounted in the upper section of the monument.

5. 59th New York Infantry Position
The 59th New York held a line to the south of the stone wall in front of the Copse of Trees. In the July 3 assault, a portion of Kemper's Confederate Brigade attacked across the ground behind the monument.
