Regarding George Chaffey, Jr.. Immigrant; Great Lakes ship designer; irrigation engineer; founder of the Etiwanda community and the Etiwanda Mutual Water Company; hydroelectric engineer, President of the Los Angeles Electric Company; first long distance telephone in California; designer of the cities of Ontario and Upland in California and Mildura in Victoria; teetotaler; water conservationist. He laid out 15-mile long, 200 feet wide Euclid Avenue (considered one of the most beautiful thoroughfares in the world); his brother William planted the trees on it. He is associated with the irrigation of the Colorado Desert and the transportation of Colorado River water to the Imperial Valley of California. Pioneer George Chaffey Jr. gave the civilization-sustaining gifts of community, water and power to Southern California, and made and lost a lot of money in
