1. Dukehart’s Barbershop and Bathhouse Marker
Inscription. In the 1850s a black man known only as “Dukehart” operated a barbershop that straddled the creek at this location. Typical of many barbershops of this period, Dukehart’s establishment also provided hot baths for his customers. The water was carried through a trough or pipe into the building and heated. Then the water was poured over the bather, and the used water returned to the creek.
