On the front of the monument is Maltese Cross, the symbol of Fifth Corps, and the state coat of arms.

Looking from the monument toward the rock walls across the crest of Big Round Top. To the far right is one structure which definitely of post war vintage - the base for an observation tower which stood on Big Round Top, built by the War Department shortly after the park was formed.
