The gun is an early model 8-inch Rodman Gun, cast in 1861 by Fort Pitt Foundry, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was given the registry number 77. The muzzle markings indicate it weighed 8503 pounds at that time. It was inspected by John McNutt (initials J.M.N.).
