Inscription.
Kehila Kedosha Janina was built in 1926–27 by Greek-speaking Jews from Northwestern Greece and is the only Romaniote synagogue in the Western Hemisphere. The brick-faced facade is embellished with symbolic Hebraic ornaments, including a stone rendition of the ten commandments flanked by lions of Judah and a round stained glass window featuring the Star of David. Restored by architect Leonard Colchamiro, a descendant of one of the original founders, Kehila Kedosha Janina still functions as an active synagogue, perpetuating the distinctive liturgy and traditions of Romaniote Jews.
