1. Cathedral of St. John the Baptist Marker

Inscription. The cathedral parish was established in 1821 by Bishop John England, the first Bishop of Charleston. The cathedral was named for St. Finbar. A second cathedral church was erected on this site in 1856 under the names of Sts. John and Finbar. This fine gothic structure was destroyed in the 1861 fire. The present cathedral was completed in 1907.
