Inscription.
This tablet marks the land
upon which stood “Four Chimneys,”
the house occupied by
General George Washington
as headquarters
during the Battle of Long Island,
in which the Council of War
was held August 29th 1776, when
it was decided to withdraw the
American Army from Long Island.

 
Erected 1929 by Long Island State Society Daughters of the Revolution.
