James Moorman, a member of the Society of Friends, and conscientiously opposed to war, but recognizing the great value of the services of the Union Soldier, to our country and to the cause of Human Liberty, by his last Will and Testament contributed two thousand dollars to the erection of this monument. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - In commemoration of the Services and Patriotism of the soldiers who fought and died during the late Rebellion, in defense of their country, the Union of the States, and the Rights of Man. The Board of Commissioners of the County of Randolph, on petition of a majority of voters of said county, have erected this monument. John R. Phillips, Adam R. Hiatt, William C.
