1. Washington’s Headquarters Marker

Inscription. Washington made his winter headquarters at the Arnold Tavern, January 6, 1777, now a part of All Souls Hospital. December, 1779, he established quarters at the Ford Mansion, now maintained as a museum.

Erected by The New Jersey Commission on Historic Sites.

Gen. George Washington hade his headquarters in the home of Col. Jacob Ford during the bitter winter of 1779-80. The mansion is located across the street from the marker.
