1. The Green or Market Plaine Marker
Inscription. Laid out by Petrus Stuyvesant, Dutch Governor, 1655. On this green stood the old jail and gallows. Here were held the great fairs and weekly markets from early times.
 
Erected 1932 by Historic Markers Commission. (Marker Number NC-28.)
