Inscription.
This Memorial is dedicated to the members of the First Marine Raider Battalion. Led by Lt. Col Merrit A. Edson, their courage in combat stood forth at Tulagi, Guadalcanal, and New Georgia, B. S. More about this marker. The Edson's Raiders Memorial was the first Memorial placed in Quantico National Cemetery. The Memorial is dedicated to the 800 members of the First Marine Raider Battalion funded and erected by Edson's Raiders Association. The Raiders played a key part in the vastly outnumbered American forces pushing back the Japanese troops in the British Solomon Islands (B.S.I.) between August 1942 and October 1943. The boulders within commemorate the battles at Tulagi, New Georgia and Guadalcanal. Links to other markers along the Memorial Trail are provided in the Related Markers section below.
