Inscription. The lion habitat is named in honor of George H. Carroll (1926-1998), a long-standing friend and supporter of the University of North Alabama (UNA). Mr. Carroll was the loving husband of Virginia Sego Carroll and father of Steven, Judy, and George Jr., and David. He was a prominent and successful businessman, community leader and philanthropist. Mr. Carroll loved the UNA lions and it is only fitting that this facility bears his name.

David B. Carroll, in loving memory and honor of his father George HH. Carroll (1926-1998), provided a charitable contribution to cover the cost of purchasing Leo III and Una. These African Nubian lions were born in captivity at the Greenville Wildlife Park, a 501 (c) (3) organization, which provides education about and is a refuge and sanctuary for wild animals. The University and the surrounding community owe a deep debt of gratitude to David B. Carroll for gifting funds for Leo III and Una to the UNA Foundation, and for his many other philanthropic contributions.
