1. August 26, 1814 Marker

Inscription. In this village President Madison and members of his official family found refuge in the home of Caleb Bentley, first Postmaster of Brookeville, following the burning of the Capitol and the White House by the British army. Many other refugees from Washington also found shelter here.

Erected 1964 by The Montgomery County Historical Society and The Maryland House and Garden Tour, 1962.
