1. Chesapeake House Marker
Inscription. The famous Chesapeake House occupies two old island homes. Hilda Crockett opened the business in 1944 in the Peter Crockett House with four guest rooms and a dining room on the porch. She expanded by purchasing the Nathan Rayfield House where the current dining room is located.

Down Hilda Crockett Lane is the site of the former Tangier Opera House, where the first movie on the island was screened in 1908, and where the wireless staion (1909 - 1913) was located.
