More about this marker. The marker is mounted on a low rock to the right side of the entrance of the Dunsmuir City Park. If approaching from the north, one will see a locomotive and "Welcome Dunsmuir" sign upon arriving at the entrance. If driving from the south, at the entrance one will see a "Dunsmuir Botanical Garden" sign.

From Jim Schultz' Record Searchlight article (3/9/2008) detailing Ruth's visit to Dunsmuir: The seven-inning game, which saw Ruth and Meusel pick their teams from the local baseball talent, was sponsored by the Dunsmuir Lions Club, with a lot of financial help from Dunsmuir businessman Frank Talmadge, and drew more than 900 people who wanted to get a firsthand look at "The Babe." Mounted on the same rock as the main marker is a small Lions Club marker reading: Told to Reva Coon by her husband, "Bone's" Coon. Bones Coon was one of the Dunsmuir residents who played in the exhibition game with Ruth.

Dunsmuir's baseball field looks much the same as when Ruth played here in 1924. Ruth is said to have hit a home run into the woods by the Sacramento River that was never found.
