More about this marker. The monument has a 12-foot long red arrow hewed from a single block of red granite. The quarrying of the block took four months of work by the Lake Wausau Granite Company, the only quarry which G. Reinke & Company could find which could supply a large enough granite block.
The monument was dedicated on August 14, 1971. Eight days later, the shaft was destroyed by lightning. It was later replaced and rededicated on September 14, 1975.
