1. Bee-Bennett House Marker
One of the oldest preserved homes of Placerville (Old Hangtown) originally built in 1853 by Col. Fred A. Bee, pioneer merchant, and enlarged in 1889 by Judge Marcus P. Bennett, early jurist, retaining redwood ornate paneling woodwork and fireplace of pioneer period.
Erected 1986 by Grand Parlor, Native Sons of the Golden West.

Regarding Bee-Bennett House. The building was originally built by Colonel Frederick A. Bee, pioneer merchant and founder of the Bee Telegraph Company. In 1889, the home was bought by Judge Marcus P. Bennett who expanded the house into a 16-room mansion. In 1958 it was purchased by the Elks Club, Placerville BPOE Lodge 1712, to use as its hall. The Elks did some remodeling with most of the home's original beauty preserved. In 2001, the Elks sold the house and today it is the site of one of Placerville’s finest restaurants, the Sequoia Bee-Bennett House.

3. Bee-Bennett House
Currently the "Sequoia - at the Bee-Bennett House", an upscale fine dining restaurant. The home has been beautifully restored, furnished with antique 19th century furniture and boasts the original wine cellar which offers private parties and wine tasting.

Frederick Bee (third from the left) was appointed Chinese Consul by the Emporer of China for his defense of the Chinese community which fell victim to the anti-Chinese sentiment of that time.
