The bronze plaque with the names of 34 area residents who died during the country's three wars was originally erected in front of the Nekoosa-Port Edwards Veterans Memorial Building (dedicated May 30, 1960 – now demolished). The building was a result of the combined efforts of the members of Hamel-Ruder Post No. 381, American Legion, Schuman-Arendt
