Commerce Street
Originally designated Cherry Lane because of the abundance of cherry trees in the vicinity. In 1822, during a plague in Lower Manhattan an exodus resulted. The street developed a thriving commercial character and was thereby renamed Commerce Street
Erected 1979 by Bedford, Barrow, Commerce Block Association.
