Served 1777 and 1778 in
Col. Moses Jaque’s
New Jersey Regiment.

In March 1779 he entered the Navy.
He was wounded by a musket ball
in the right leg from which
he suffered until death in 1851.

This church was erected in 1840. It was destroyed by fire on January 10, 1886 and rebuilt later that year. The grave of Joseph W. Palmer can be found on the left (west) side of this structure.
