An entertaining speaker and inspirational professor, Professor, Lingan Strother Randolph helped design and construct a campus water system and helped plan and design many college buildings. He was an avid railroad proponent, was instrumental in building a railroad spur to Blacksburg, and preside over the Brush Mountain Coal Company. He was also the charter president of the Montgomery Golf Club.
