Officer Sherbo was called to assist in a high speed chase of a stolen car. While in pursuit, his patrol car was intentionally rammed by the other vehicle. The cruiser burst into flames and hit a tree. Officer Sherbo died of his injuries less than a day later, on November 9, 1997.
