1. Fort Worth's First Telephone Exchange Marker
Inscription. On this site in September 1881 Fort Worth's first telephone exchange was founded by Southwest Telegraph and Telephone Company. It initially served 40 customers and employed three local employees. One hundred years later telephone service is supplied by Southwestern Bell serving 750,000 customers and employing 3,300 people.
 
Erected 1981 by Southwest Bell-North "B" Service Community Action Team.
