1. The DeForest Building Marker
Inscription. After construction in 1889, the DeForest Building, named for its owner Henry L. DeForest, became one of Sanford's original structures in the late nineteenth century commercial district. This was Mr. DeForest's second downtown building. The city directory lists a crockery and glassware business run by Mr. A. Siman as one of the building's early tenants.

The Romanesque Revival architectural style, constructed of brick, was originally distinguished by three pier-like projections above the facade. In the 1950's a new facade of stucco was added which gives the building a parapet with pediment screen in the center and piers at the sides. The floor plan is rectangular and the building has a flat roof.
