Inscription. In the face of frontier hardships the Moravians practiced common housekeeping. Their system of communal living meant that every member of the congregation had a share in the necessary tasks of sustaining the town, such as raising cabins, clearing fields, growing and preparing food.

"It was decided to build another kitchen, in which food shall be cooked for the congregation, with the exception of the Single Brethren and boys, who shall continue to cook in the present kitchen."
