1. "Eureka, I found it" Marker
Inscription.
shouted a small band of hardy pioneers in August of 1857. A spring of cool, clear water near this very spot. Abundant drinking water was a strong factor in search for a place to settle. They soon agreed that they had indeed found an ideal place and laid claim to the area for the town site which they chose to name Eureka!
 
Erected 1994 by City of Eureka.

Location. 37° 49.105′ N, 96° 17.608′ W. Marker is in Eureka, Kansas, in Greenwood County. Marker is on River Street (U.S. 54) near Main Street, on the left when traveling east. Marker is about 25 feet east of the back of the Eureka Fire Station at 114 South Main Street, and sits about 200 feet north of U.S. 54. Touch for map.
