Regarding “Quick Silver Charley”. Charles Hendel was also known as a “dope maker”, and womanizer. (Dope was what the miners called the racing wax that they put on the snowshoes [skis] and the dope maker, not the skier, won the purse at the frequent races on Lexington Hill).
