Inscription. Anna Mathilda McNeill Whistler, mother of the noted painter, James Abbot McNeill Whistler, lived in a house which stood 1300 yards east of this spot.

Erected 1938 by Battle of Elizabethtown Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, and County of Bladen, in May.
