Glascock County, in east central Georgia, was created from Warren County in 1857 and named after Thomas Glascock of Augusta, a veteran of the War of 1812 (1812-15) and the Seminole Wars who subsequently served in the state legislature and the U.S. Congress. 4. Augusta-Gibson-Sandersville Railroad. Wikipedia entry:
The Augusta, Gibson and Sandersville Railroad was incorporated in 1884 and began operating from Augusta to Stapleton, Georgia, USA, in 1885. In 1893, it went bankrupt and was reorganized as the Augusta Southern Railroad. The line ran as 3 ft (914 mm) narrow gauge until 1895. 5. Wiley W. Kitchens Monument
Glascock County was created using parts of Warren and Jefferson Counties by the Georgia Legislature on December 19, 1857. The bill creating the county was introduced by the Honorable Wiley W. Kitchens who resided in the area that become Glascock County. The Kitchens family had been long-time residents of the area.
