1. Pioneers in Textiles Marker
Inscription. From 1850 to 1861, the center for the cotton and wool spinning industry was hereabouts, many mills being located on Shoal Creek. First was Hope Factory, built just upstream by William Parks in 1823. Others were Glen Factory, Crescent Mills, Crowson Mills, Eagle Mills and Marcella Falls Woollen Mill. The last closed about 1885.
