Royal Governor 1754–65. Scholar, engineer, and member of Irish Parliament. Promoted immigration to colony. Grave 2 miles south.

A marker with the same title and number, originally erected in 1939, was located 12 miles further north on this same road, near Belville. Photograph 3 shows it at the old location. The text of the previous version of this marker did not show the birth and death years, and its text read, “Royal Governor 1754–65, author, member Irish Parliament, promoter of search for Northwest Passage, is buried at Saint Philips Church.”
