Dad preferred to take visitors over to the show barn to show his ribbons. Dad would climb into the corral with his bull and poke him in the rump with his shotgun until the bull would stand up. The Secret Service were petrified, but didn’t dare protest.
Visiting dignitaries soon got the word of such favored treatment, so everybody had to be brought to the farm.

More about this marker. The background of the marker contains a photo with a caption of “Mexican President Lopez Mateos (center wearing sunglasses) admires one of the herd in the show barn with President Eisenhower (left) and his son John Eisenhower (far right).”
Two other photos at the lower left of the marker depict Eisenhower at the farm with other dignitaries. The first has a caption of “Eisenhower shows off his cattle ribbons to President Charles De Gaulle of France. Eisenhower and De Gaulle took a break from their preparations for the 1960 Paris summit to tour the farm.” The caption on the second photo is “Sir Winston Churchill (back seat wearing white hat), former Prime Minister of Great Britain, visited the farm in 1959. Secret Service agents expressed concern for Churchill’s safety when he began slapping the cattle on their haunches while touring the show barn.”
