Rossetti, William Holman Hunt, and others in September 1848. They held their first meeting in Millais’s home at 83 Gower Street, near Bedford Square in London. (The street has since been renumbered, so the address today is 7 Gower Street.)

John Everett Millais, a co-founder of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, completed Ophelia in 1852. It depicts the character by that name in Shakespeare’s play Hamlet, just before she drowns.
