Redland District. . The Redland District, named for the color of its soil, was settled in the early 1900s. Dan Roberts, Claude Jenkins and George Kosel were the first pioneers to file homestead claims in Redland. The pioneer community was concentrated along Redland Road. By 1912, early settlers had built several churches, a school, a small store and the Pioneer Guild Hall. The Redland Fruit and Spice Park is one of the oldest and unique parks in the county system. It displays a large variety of exotic fruit bearing trees. The Merritt Residence, located at 24890 Redland Road, was built in 1930. The Merritts restored the house after Hurricane Andrew and won the 1994 Florida Trust Award for Preservation.
