1. Philip Morin Freneau Marker
During the Revolutionary War, Philip Morin Freneau was a privateer captain who was captured, imprisoned and abused by the British. He was also a poet who used his writings to advance the American cause.
Inscription. Eloquently fired the spirit of the people with poems and ballads promoting the cause of liberty. Friend of James Madison and Thomas Jefferson, published the Jersey Chronicle, first newspaper in Monmouth County.
