This building was the residence of Edward B. Dudley, first Governor of North Carolina. Elected by the people, in 1836. Here Daniel Webster was entertained by Governor Dudley on May 5, 1847, and here Present William H. Taft was the guest of James Sprunt on November 9, 1909. New Hanover Historical Commission: A.J.
