Inscription. Author of Abenaki & English Dialogues
Born 1839 —— Died 1917
St. Francis Indian Reserve, Odanak, Quebec In 1884 he led back to the land of their fathers a group of Abenaki and Sokoki Indians and established here in the woods of Intervale, a permanent summer settlement of his people.

Regarding In Memory of Joseph Laurent. There is a yellow and brown cabin out front, and back in the woods are four more cabins, painted brown and green. One of the brown and green cabins is collapsed. Abenaki Indians, relocated to Quebec, used to come down to this location in the summer to sell baskets and such. The "Dialogues" on the marker refers to the first translation of English/Abenaki. Trains of the two former railroads that met here (the Boston & Maine & the Maine Central) stopped here at Intervale to swap crew.
