Regarding Here Died General Justo Rufino Barrios. Guatemalan President and General Justo Rufino Barrios died here on April 2, 1885 while leading troops on an invasion of El Salvador as part of his dream of Central American union. After his death, the Guatemalan troops quickly retreated and the movement towards a union of the Central American countries was put on hold for decades.
