St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. . St. Mary's Seminary of Perry County, Missouri, purchased land formerly owned by the Thomas family for a new church in 1904. The church was dedicated and staffed by Vincentian Priests in 1905. St. Thomas the Apostle was established as a parish on this site in 1915. An elementary school was built in 1923 and staffed by the Daughters of Charity. The original church building was destroyed in 1969 by Hurricane Camille. A new church was dedicated in 1972. The Diocese of Biloxi purchased the property in 1981 from the Congregation of the Mission (Vincentians). The first diocesan pastor was assigned to this parish in 1993. The Parish Life Center was dedicated in 2002. All buildings were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Rebuilding of the church and related facilities started in 2008. The school was relocated to Espy Avenue. Present facilities were rededicated in February, 2011.
