1. Bragg Avenue Marker

Inscription. Bragg, born in Warrenton, North Carolina, graduated from West Point in 1837 and joined the artillery. Bragg saw service in the Seminole War and the Mexican War before resigning from the army in 1856. Bragg joined the Confederate Army and became Commander of Army of Tennessee, and commanded the troops at Chickamauga. In February 1864 he became Chief of Staff to Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederate States. After the war he became a civil engineer.

Location. 34° 52.306′ N, 85° 17.413′ W. Marker is in Chickamauga, Georgia, in Walker County. Marker is at the intersection of Gordon Street and Bragg Avenue (unopened), on the right when traveling west on Gordon Street. This marker is located on the eastern edge of the downtown business district, just before where a bend in the roadway turns Gordon Street into West 10th Avenue. The maker faces the east to west roadway traffic, very near the curb, and is located very near a railway crossing. Touch for map.
