Inscription. Sixty-four former Edison students died in service to their country during the Vietnam War between 1965 and 1971 – more than any school in the nation. These young men represent the burden and disparity of the war on poor rural and urban communities throughout America. Whether they enlisted voluntarily or were assigned draft numbers that they were unable to avoid by deferment, these men made the ultimate sacrifice
