1. Washington Spring Marker
Inscription. The Continental Army is reported to have utilized the old spring at the base of these slopes during the September encampment west of the Hackensack River.
Reports indicate that General Washington visited here and drank water from the spring.

The Continental Army camped in this area from September 4 through 20, 1780. The spring was their main water supply during the encampment.

4. Washington Spring
General George Washington is believed to have taken a drink from this spring on September 13, 1780, after reviewing his troops. With him were six local Indian chiefs who attended the ceremony.

The marker is in Van Saun Park off Forest Avenue in Paramus. It is along a walking path in a section called Washington Garden, across from parking area 4.
