TUCSON - On the seven-year anniversary of his death, Tucson remembered the fallen
Officer Hite was killed in the line of duty on June 2, 2008 after he was shot during the pursuit of a gunman, who had allegedly fired a rifle into the homes of two neighbors and wounded a responding Pima County Sheriff's deputy.
According to TPD, the United States Air Force veteran served TPD for four years and was the eighth TPD officer killed in the line of duty.
The gunman, David Delich, pleaded guilty to first degree murder in 2012 and was sentenced life in the Arizona State Hospital.
Officer Hite was 43 years old when he passed, leaving behind his wife, Nohemy Hite, two children and his parents.
Shortly after, Officer Hite's wife opened up a foundation in his honor to provide a child care center and family outreach programs for the children of first responders.
The foundation will be benefited in the Touch a Truck Family Festival and 1.5 mile Truck Trot on Saturday, July 25 starting at 7:30 a.m. at the La Mariposa Report, located at 1501 N. Houghton Rd.
For more information about the foundation or to donate to the foundation, visit erikhitefoundation.org, call 495-0430 or find them on Facebook at Erik Hite Foundation.
