1. Battle Of Lafourche Crossing Marker
Inscription. On the east side of Bayou Lafourche was fought the most important battle in Lafourche Parish during the War Between the States. On June 20 and June 21, 1863, units of the 23rd Connecticut Volunteers and 25th New York Battery, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Albert Stickney, which were guarding the crossing of the New Orleans, Opelousas, and Great Western Railroad, repulsed two major attacks by the Second Texas Mounted Rangers, Colonel Charles L. Pyron, Commanding.
