1. "Shrine of the Double Axes" Marker
The room before you was made into a shrine at the end of the Postpalatial period (1375-1200 B.C.). It is known as the "Shrine of the Double Axes" (Figure 1). On a bench at the back, different ritual objects were found amongst which were a stone double axe and votive clay idols (Figure 2). Similar small shrines have been found in houses of the same period.

Location. 35° 17.848′ N, 25° 9.8′ E. Marker is in Knossos, Crete, in Irákleio. Marker can be reached from Eparchiaki Odos Knossou - Charaka south of Glafkou, on the left when traveling south. This marker is located on the island of Crete, just south of the capital city of Heraklion, in the Palace of Knossos archaeological park, and you must be walking on the grounds of the archaeological park in oder to see this marker.
