1. Crescent City Tsunami Marker
Inscription. During the evening of March 27, 1964 a massive earthquake shook Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula heavily damaging Anchorage, located more than 60 miles away, and sending a tsunami racing across the Pacific Ocean. About four hours later, on March 28, the tsunami hit Crescent City in the early morning hours. Four large waves battered Crescent City over the next several hours, leaving 29 city blocks destroyed and 12 persons dead.
