Location. 14° 36.576′ N, 90° 39.389′ W. Marker is in San Lucas Sacatepéquez, Sacatepéquez. Memorial is on 6a Calle just east of 3a Avenida, on the left when traveling west. The marker and monument are very prominent in the San Lucas town center, in front of the City Hall building (Municipalidad). Touch for map. Regarding Battle of San Lucas Monument. This marker and monument pay tribute to the Battle of San Lucas fought here on June 29, 1871. Liberal forces under Generals Barrios and Garcia Granados defeated the last Conservative forces under President Cerna. The next day the Liberal troops marched into Guatemala City, ushering in the Liberal Revolution of 1871.

The statue on the top of the monument is a quetzal, Guatemala's national bird. It makes up part of the national seal, seated over two crossed rifles.
