Regarding L’Ambiance Plaza Worker’s Memorial. The building collapse was one of the worst disasters in modern Connecticut history. L'Ambiance Plaza was a 16-story residential project under construction when it completely collapsed on April 23, 1987, killing 28 construction workers. Several observers suggested the collapse was preventable, and highlighted the deficiencies of the “lift-slab” construction technique, where concrete slab floors are poured at ground level and hoisted into position on steel columns. Each floor is held in place temporarily while construction of the building is completed. One of the upper floors fell from its supports, causing the other floors to collapse.
